Linear Mold Handling Systems

HLH TYPE III System

The HLH TYPE III System is a high-capacity mold handling solution designed for flaskless green sand molds, offering efficient cooling and automated mold transportation. Engineered for high-volume production environments, it ensures precise mold indexing, optimized cooling durations, and seamless integration with various pouring systems. This system enhances workflow efficiency, reduces manual handling, and supports consistent casting quality, making it an ideal choice for modern foundries seeking reliability and productivity.

Triple row combined pouring and cooling line

Cooling times up to 1 hour

With the Type III molds can pass through the system a second or third time without weights and jackets for additional cooling before they are discharged.

The mold is pushed out of the molding machine onto a self storing automatic mold conveyor. This conveyor provides unpoured mold storage and quickly transports molds on demand to the pouring line. The mold is then pushed off the aluminum bottom board onto a graphite lined cast iron pouring pallet. Bottom board is returned automatically to the molding machine.

After the mold is pushed onto the pouring line, the weight and jacket are automatically set. The weight is set first and then the jacket, insuring that setting the jacket does not cause mold shift.

Molds are gently indexed forward to the pouring zone. Molds can be automatically indexed to the pourer for single station pouring or the pourer can move up the line to pour at multiple positions. After pouring, the molds continue to cool under weights and jackets until they reach the end of the pouring line. At the end of the line a combination lowering and transfer device lowers the pallet and mold (with the weight and jacket in place) from the top to the bottom level. It then pushes the line of pallets on the bottom level forward one position in the opposite direction.

The molds continue to cool on the bottom level as they move toward the lift transfer device on the other end of the system. This unit lifts the pallet from the bottom to the top level, and then pushes the line of pallets on the top level forward one position in the opposite direction.=

The weight and jacket are then stripped and the mold is pushed laterally to the center of the pallet. After the pusher retracts, the weight and jacket are then set down on the empty pouring pallet and indexed forward one position to the mold loading station. The weight and jacket are then picked up and the sequence repeats as a new unpoured mold is pushed onto the pallet and the weight and jacket are precisely set on the incoming mold.

Each pallet contains three molds, one on the pouring line with a weight and jacket, and two rows of cooling without weights and jackets. After the poured mold is pushed to the center row, it continues to cool without a weight and jacket. The mold makes a second pass through the system on the pallet until it reaches the transfer/discharge position on the upper level.

At this point, the mold is pushed from the middle to the back of the pallet. The mold then makes a third pass through the system, and the mold and pallet eventually return to the transfer/discharge position. Finally, the cooled mold is discharged onto a vibrating pan or shake-out conveyor. Molds are dumped one at a time, without pushing mold against mold.

This system permits the operator to select double or triple row cooling based on a particular casting’s cooling requirement.

Key Components:

  • Self-Storing Automatic Mold Conveyor
  • Graphite Lined Cast Iron Pouring Pallet
  • Weight and Jacket Adjustment Mechanism
  • Combination Lowering and Transfer Device
  • Lift Transfer Device
  • Vibrating Pan or Shake-out Conveyor (Provided by Others)
  • Triple Mold Storage and Cooling System

Key Features:

  • Triple Row System: The HLH TYPE III System utilizes a triple row combined pouring and cooling line, enabling molds to pass through the system two or three times for additional cooling before discharge.
  • Flexible Cooling: The ability to select between double or triple row cooling ensures that molds are cooled based on their specific casting requirements.
  • Automatic Mold Handling: Molds are efficiently transported to the pouring line via an automatic mold conveyor, providing quick storage and transportation.
  • Weight and Jacket Handling: The weight is placed first, followed by the jacket, ensuring the mold remains stable and secure during the pouring process.
  • Multi-Station Pouring: The system allows for single station pouring or multi-position pouring, providing flexibility in production based on operational needs.
  • Advanced Cooling Process: After pouring, molds continue cooling under weights and jackets and are automatically transferred to the cooling line, where they can pass through up to three cooling cycles without weights and jackets.
  • Triple Cooling Pass: Molds can pass through the system up to three times, ensuring thorough cooling before they are discharged. This process helps maintain mold integrity and quality.
  • Efficient Mold Transfer: The combination lowering and transfer device moves the molds between top and bottom levels of the system, while the lift transfer device moves molds back to the top for additional cooling.
  • Precise Mold Movement: After cooling, the molds are carefully transferred to the center of the pallet, and weight and jacket are placed on new incoming molds to continue the cycle.

Benefits:

  • Customizable Cooling: The HLH TYPE III System allows for tailored cooling options, depending on the mold’s material and specific needs, increasing production efficiency.
  • Increased Cooling Capacity: The triple pass cooling line maximizes cooling efficiency, which is ideal for molds that require extended cooling times.
  • Automated and Precise Operation: The automated conveyor system, along with precise mold handling, ensures a seamless operation that reduces downtime and increases throughput.
