Linear Mold Handling Systems

HLH TYPE II System

The HLH TYPE II System is an advanced mold handling and cooling solution designed for flaskless green sand molds. It features automated mold transfer, precise indexing, and optimized cooling times to enhance casting quality and consistency. With a dual-row pouring and cooling line, this system maximizes productivity while ensuring efficient space utilization. Its seamless integration with various molding operations reduces manual intervention, improves workflow, and enhances overall foundry performance.

Double row combined pouring and cooling line

Cooling times up to 45 minutes.

With the Type II molds can pass through the system a second time without weights and jackets for additional cooling before they are discharged.

The mold is pushed out of the molding machine onto a self storing automatic mold conveyor. This conveyor provides unpoured mold storage and quickly transports molds on demand to the pouring line.

The mold is then pushed off the aluminum bottom board onto a graphite lined cast iron pouring pallet. Bottom board is returned automatically to the molding machine.

After the mold is pushed onto the pouring line, the weight and jacket are automatically set. The weight is set first and then the jacket, insuring that setting the jacket does not cause mold shift.

Molds are gently indexed forward to the pouring zone. Molds can be automatically indexed to the pourer for single station pouring or the pourer can move up the line to pour at multiple positions.

After pouring, the molds continue to cool under weights and jackets until they reach the end of the pouring line. At the end of the line a combination lowering and transfer device lowers the pallet and mold (with the weight and jacket in place) from the top to the bottom level. It then pushes the line of pallets on the bottom level forward one position in the opposite direction.

The molds continue to cool on the bottom level as they move toward the lift transfer device on the other end of the system. This unit lifts the pallet from the bottom to the top level, and then pushes the line of pallets on the top level forward one position in the opposite direction.

The weight and jacket are then stripped and the cooled mold is pushed laterally onto the backside of the pallet for additional cooling. Each pallet contains two molds, one on the pouring line with a weight and jacket, and one on the cooling line without a weight and jacket. After the pusher retracts, the weight and jacket are then set down on the empty pouring pallet and indexed forward one position to the mold loading station. The weight and jacket are then picked up and the sequence repeats as a new unpoured mold is pushed onto the pallet and the weight and jacket are precisely set on the incoming mold.

After the poured mold is pushed onto the cooling row, it continues to cool without a weight and jacket. The mold makes a second pass through the system until the mold and pallet eventually reach the discharge position at the top level, where they are dumped onto a vibrating pan or shake-out conveyor. Molds are discharged one at a time.

Key Components:

  • Self-Storing Automatic Mold Conveyor
  • Graphite Lined Cast Iron Pouring Pallet
  • Weight and Jacket Adjustment Mechanism
  • Combination Lowering and Transfer Device
  • Lift Transfer Device
  • Vibrating Pan or Shake-out Conveyor (Provided by Others)
  • Dual Mold Storage and Cooling System

Key Features:

  • Dual Row System: The HLH TYPE II System is a double row combined pouring and cooling line, allowing molds to pass through the system for additional cooling without weights and jackets for improved results.
  • Automatic Mold Handling: The mold is automatically transported to the pouring line through a self-storing mold conveyor, offering efficient storage and transportation of unmolded products.
  • Weight and Jacket Handling: The weight is set first, followed by the jacket, ensuring proper mold alignment and preventing mold shift during pouring.
  • Flexible Pouring Process: Molds are gently indexed forward to the pouring zone, with the option for single station pouring or multi-position pouring based on the system’s setup.
  • Cooling Process: After pouring, molds continue to cool under weights and jackets and are transferred to the cooling line for further cooling.
  • Dual Cooling Lines: After the first pass through the pouring line, molds are transferred to a second pass through the cooling line without weights and jackets, allowing for additional cooling before discharge.
  • Efficient Mold Transfer: A combination lowering and transfer device automatically moves the molds between top and bottom levels of the system, improving workflow and cooling efficiency.
  • Final Mold Processing: After cooling, the molds are transferred to the vibrating pan or shake-out conveyor for final processing and discharge.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced Cooling Efficiency: The second pass through the cooling line ensures molds are adequately cooled before discharge, improving mold quality and reducing production time.
  • Automated and Flexible Operation: The system’s automated conveyor, mold handling, and cooling processes make it easy to manage various mold types and cooling requirements.
  • Increased Productivity: The combination of dual cooling lines and automated handling increases the throughput and efficiency of foundry operations.
  • Improved Product Quality: The additional cooling cycle helps produce more uniform and high-quality molds, minimizing defects in the casting process.
  • Energy-Efficient Design: The entire system is designed to operate efficiently, reducing energy consumption and operational costs.

Notable Features:

  • Double Row System: The dual-row system allows for increased mold capacity and flexibility in cooling and pouring.
  • Second Pass Cooling: Molds are cooled a second time without weights and jackets, ensuring thorough cooling and quality.
  • High Efficiency and Low Maintenance: The system is designed for optimal efficiency with low maintenance requirements, helping to reduce downtime and improve long-term reliability.
  • Precise Weight and Jacket Placement: Automated weight and jacket placement ensures consistent and precise mold handling throughout the process.
